In supporting the development of SMEs, FIT has determined that better results are obtained through working with New Media, to reach more people in a faster and more cost-effective way. ICT and Broadcast media afford a more timely delivery of information and better channels for determining what information is needed in boosting the competitiveness of the SMEs.
FIT has therefore, since 2005, worked with various broadcasters in the East Africa region, supporting them in:
- Devising efficient client/listener feedback mechanisms,
- Creating a comprehensive content provision network for sources of market intelligence, weather reports, technical support and other information their clients may require.
- Working closely with the media houses on long term sustainability of the delivery of agri-business programming through their stations.
Beginning 2011, FIT initiated interventions in delivery of Agri-business information gathering and dissemination through ICT and mobile telephony using the Freedom Fone IVR system.
