Agricultural Information through ICT and Media

This was the development of a commercially sustainable ICT led interactive media framework that targeted and responded to business and market access issues of smallholder farmers among Kenya’s rural farming communities. The programmes which has a weekly audience of over 1 M people was and still is being implemented through Kenya Broadcasting Corporation. Due to the success of the programmes and in response to the listeners’ requests and the need to reach a wider audience, 4 rural FM Stations broadcasting in vernacular were also added, namely Mbaitu FM (Eastern Kenya), Kass FM (Rift Valley Region), Radio Salaam FM (Coastal Region), and Coro FM (Central and Mt Kenya Region) Description of Actual Services Provided by FIT: • Training of production staff of the stations, • Training and linking radio station staff to advertisers, • Backstopping and technical advise • Support in the development of content for the weekly programmes and marketing
